The men’s soccer team beat Truman State 2-1 on March 21 at the Bulldog Soccer Park in Kirksville, Missouri. This was the Flyers’ second win of the season which improved them to 2-4-1.

Assisted by senior Jimmy Mwanga, sophomore Matthew Beaulieu scored the opening goal during the second minute.

The Flyers made several attempts to increase their lead on the Bulldogs, but these were unsuccessful.

In the 53rd minute, the Bulldogs tied the score with a penalty kick. However, seven minutes before the game was over the Flyers scored the game-winning goal with a shot by junior Sebastian Arguello, which was followed by a pass by fellow junior Domenic Baumann.

Going into the game, the team had a very positive mentality which helped them achieve their second win of the season.

“We were confident but we also thought it was not going to be an easy game,” said senior Abdul Ganiyu-Iddrisu. “After they [Bulldogs] tied us, they were attacking and putting a lot of pressure on, but after that final goal I think we all felt very relieved.”

Abdul mentioned that the team chemistry has changed a lot compared to last year and thinks it is a factor that has built them momentum for the upcoming games.

Next, the team will travel to Bolivar, Missouri to take on Southwest Baptist on April 1.
