The world knows who Taylor Swift is, especially now due to her “Eras Tour.” You do not have to be a Swiftie, the self-proclaimed name Swift’s fan base has acquired, to know the massive impact Swift is having on the economy, let alone the world. With the help of her loyal fans, Swift seems unstoppable. Shutting down Ticketmaster, selling out stadiums and even fans standing outside of the stadiums singing her songs so the whole city could hear them. But even more remarkable is how Swift is boosting the economy with every city she tours in.
Just in North America, Swift’s “Eras Tour” has grossed $2.2 billion in ticket sales alone. Now imagine how much more revenue Swift brings in with all the merchandise sold and extra supplies. But the tour doesn’t stop there. Swift announced she will be adding another 27 United States cities to her tour, along with the 53 cities she already has toured from March to August 2023. Additionally, she has added an international tour that goes from London to Poland to Spain and ends in Toronto November of next year!
But why and how is the “Eras Tour” generating so much money for these cities? Swifties are said to be dropping around $1,300 to $1,500 for the tours alone – including expenses like clothes, hotels, food, transportation, merchandise, travel and more. Aside from the concert itself, fans have been roaming through stores and websites such as Target and Amazon for merchandise and physical copies of her music.
As a Swiftie who was lucky enough to go, my sister and I did spend a nice penny or two at a Chicago restaurant nearby Soldier Field before we entered the concert. And there were hundreds of other Swifties in the same restaurant and thousands of them as soon as we walked outside.
Only one artist still holds the title of the biggest tour in music history, which is Elton John, but experts predict Swift will easily surpass him by next March. Swift’s fans are sticking right by her side, showing how you can own anything, be anyone and prove the world wrong when everyone is against you.
People wonder why everyone is so obsessed with her, but listen to her songs and the lyrics behind them – it is all relatable. Normal life stuff, not always about boys and each album has its own taste behind it. You want pop? Listen to her “1989” album. You want indie-rock? Turn on those underrated “folklore” and “evermore” albums. And don’t forget, Swift did begin out as a country star.
Honestly, it is hard to say that someone has it all, but Swift does a respectable job of making sure she gets it all done. Long live the “Eras Tour” and for all the good it has brought to our economy and all the good that it is yet to bring us.
