Danger in the Sky with Mel Gibson’s “Flight Risk”

The movie industry is more diverse than it appears. Actors who may have started acting initially in their careers might transition into roles behind the scenes, such as producing or directing. A prime example of this is well-known actor Mel Gibson directing a new film, “Flight Risk,” which is garnering a lot of attention. He also directed a film nearly a decade back in 2016 called “Hacksaw Ridge.”

When an actor directs a film, it also helps out when another well-known actor works with them on their film. That actor is Mark Wahlberg, who is known for his involvement with films such as Ted, Transformers: Age of Extinction and Boogie Nights. Wahlberg was also a lead singer in the band “Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch,” which initially launched his career.

In the film Flight Risk, we encounter U.S. deputy marshal, Madolyn Harris. Played by actress Michelle Dockery, who tracked down a fugitive, Winston (Topher Grace), was hiding out in Anchorage, Alaska. Harris has to transfer Winston to New York to testify in a case that involves a kingpin to get a lighter sentence.

The deputy and witness are accompanied by a pilot, Daryl Booth, portrayed by Mark Wahlberg, to transport them both for the trial. But there is a twist that shocks both Harris and Winston on their way to New York. Tensions rise as everyone on the flight might not be who they appear to be.

The film created by Mel Gibson gives a fresh approach to storytelling, focusing on the development of plot twists and pacing. This approach comes from the departure from previous films he has directed, such as Braveheart and Hacksaw Ridge. Gibson wants the audience to feel the intensity of scenes like never before.

“Flight Risk” explores themes of loyalty and survival, which leave the audience on edge, unexpecting of what happens next. Gibson aims to keep the story engaging while implementing some personal development from the characters in the movie that may be relatable to the audience. Gibson brings in a roller coaster of emotions that add depth to the film.
