Return of the Clone Wars

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” has become a well known phrase over the last four decades. The “Star Wars” franchise has become one of the major marketing series of entertainment and has only continued to gain a higher ranking since its first installment in 1977. From old fans to new, “Star Wars” continues to be a household conversation.

A main contributor for the franchise still being a huge success is its continuous appeal to younger generations.

Since the prequels were released in the early 2000s, the franchise developed cartoons for youthful audiences to fill in the gaps between each movie. This was to help not only the young establish a fan base but for the older generations to continue through the journey.

Lucasfilm’s, the production company owned by “Star Wars” creator George Lucas, first attempt at creating a cartoon revolves around the galaxy we know but viewers never caught on to the show because of its poor plotlines.

“Clone Wars,” released in 2003, was meant to show the journey of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-wan Kenobi in between “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith.” Due to its inability to draw a significant audience, the franchise decided to develop another cartoon series landing in the same timeline; hence, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” was born.

Directed by Dave Filoni, the action-packed movie was released in 2008. It bombed in the box offices but made a huge redemption when the TV series first aired on Cartoon Network.

With its introduction to new characters like Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex and accurate representations of beloved characters like Anakin, Obi-wan and Yoda, the program became a hit for old and new galactic lovers.

Lasting a whole five seasons on the network, the show broadcasted never-before-seen planets with astonishing artwork, redemption arcs of previously thought dead heroes and villains and brought fans back to the war that created the whole domino effect the movies lead up to.

Even with all the success floating around the hit show, nothing could prepare for Disney purchasing the franchise.

Due to this transfer, Netflix aired season six in 2013 with no allusion to the finale fans had been hoping for.

For six years the beloved adaptation was believed to have been forgotten, but thanks to the fans’ love and constant dedication to get the series finale, the announcement for season seven has finally dropped.

Disney+ will begin streaming the final season Feb. 21.

Without giving spoilers, fans can expect to see the return of Ahsoka and Darth Maul while also witnessing the secrets and betrayals leading up to the infamous Order 66 and master construction of Darth Vadar himself. However, it has not been determined as to whether fans will be asked to wait weekly for new episodes, or if Disney will bless “Star Wars” fanatics by uploading the entire season.

The storyline will be revealed in the final saga of the show, hopefully with answers that have yet to be released from the original films. All will be answered in February 2020.
