Junior Jimmy Mwanga had an opportunity to score in the final 90 seconds as a ball bobbled around in front of the net, but Purdue Northwest’s Raul Garrido Garcia made the save.
Lewis kept the pressure in the second half with two shots in under eight minutes followed by three aggressive corner kick attempts. In the 61st minute, a foul occurred at midfield. Junior Abdul Ganiyu-Iddrisu played the ball quick and freshman Aris Oluwatuyi sent the ball upfield, giving Mattiasson the opportunity to score inside the far goal post.
The Pride tried to even the score but freshman goal keeper C.J. Couper kept his ground, making a save in the final two minutes of the game.
On Sunday, Sept. 8, the Flyers traveled to their first away matchup against non-conference rival University of Wisconsin Parkside in Kenosha, Wisc.
