The Fashionable Fox: Style Advice From a College Girl

Laura Fox, News Editor

Hi there, stylish students!

We have finally made it! Only two more weeks of the academic year remain and before we know it, we’ll be headed home for summer vacation.

I don’t know about you, but this school year seemed to fly by. People say the closer you are to graduating from college, the faster the years pass, and I have found that to be incredibly true.

With only one year left on my timecard here at Lewis, I know it is going to be over in the blink of an eye.

I’ve had so much fun providing you my fashionable advice this school year, and I’m looking forward to giving  even more tips and tricks in my final two semesters!

As bummed as I am that I cannot continue to write for you all throughout the summer, it is very exciting to finally get a break from the school routine. I am sure you are experiencing similar emotions at this point.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love being at Lewis. But like with anything, it is always refreshing to step back and take a breath for a little while.

As it has been for the multiple years we have all been in school, summertime is the light at the end of the tunnel.

Even if we have summer jobs or commitments to attend to, we are at least getting that break from schoolwork, which is always a relief.

And if you are lucky enough to go on a family vacation or take fun trips of sorts, the summer break is even more exciting.

I am just as excited as everyone else for the break from school. But what I am most excited for is busting out my summer fashions.

I am the type who prefers the warmer weather.  These brutally cold winters really get to me.

That being said, nothing satisfies me more than opening my drawers of jeans, throwing them across the room and replacing the empty space with bright colored shorts.

Shorts, sundresses and sandals moving into my closet make me squeal with excitement. There is something about knowing I don’t have to wear socks (or long pants!) that really makes me a happy camper.

This summer, there are plenty of new and returning trends to be excited about. Whether you love a soft sundress or would rather sport distressed denim shorts with a striped tank top, there are a variety of fun styles that you will be sure to enjoy.

One style I really love this year is a printed romper. Rompers are the perfect piece on an extra warm day. The lightweight fabric is not tight and clingy, leaving plenty of breathing room.

Another great thing about rompers is that it is the top and bottom all in one. It is almost like wearing a dress, but without the concern of the skirt flying up.

Rompers in different patterns and prints bring the summer life into your outfit. A floral patterned or tribal print romper with tan ankle strap sandals is a quick ensemble that is comfortable, yet stylish.

Another trend to try out this summer is bright colored shorts. Shorts can be found in a variety of patterns and colors this year, but most people stay away from this style because they are unsure how to wear them.

It can be a bit intimidating at first, but there are plenty of ways to play these shorts up to fit your own personal style.

When I wear brightly colored shorts, I try to pair them with a neutral color top. Personally, I think a white top with a bright colored bottom looks the best, but a black shirt will also look just as good.

You can also be brave and pair your colored shorts with a different color top. One look I love for the summer is bright pink shorts with a light blue button up tucked in. I slap on a cheetah print skinny belt and simple sandals for a very feminine look.

When in doubt, pair colored or pattern shorts with that neutral color top. Lavender colored shorts will look great with a simple white t-shirt and a fun necklace.

Some fun summer accessories I suggest you try out are fedora hats and slide sandals.  A tan fedora hat is a very versatile accessory. It will look great paired with jean shorts and a striped tee or a soft maxi dress.

Slide sandals are not only easy to slip on, but they also give any outfit a bohemian feel. I have seen slide sandals paired with a maxi skirt and crop top, but they look equally as good with a pair of high-waisted shorts.

As the weather heats up and we make our way home for the break, I hope you all find some great summer fashions that keep you feeling cool and relaxed!

Until next semester, stay stylish!
