SWAG Team Introduced to Lewis Campus

In coordination with the New Year, the Center for Health and Counseling Services is offering a new student organization, Student Wellness Advisory Group (SWAG Team). The group is designed for those interested in promoting positive health behaviors on campus.

Dr. Markisha Woodson, prevention education coordinator, explained that the group’s goal is to cover an array of health topics that are related to college students.

“Those who are a part of the SWAG Team will gain more information regarding stress management, alcohol and other drugs, healthy relationships, meal planning, physical activity, mental health, suicide prevention, sexual health and sleep issues, among others,” Woodson said.

Members of the SWAG Team will provide an opportunity to make a difference in the health of Lewis students and contribute to the growth of peer health by having a hand in planning, implementing and evaluating new health programs.

“Our hopes are that these select students will provide us with an insight to the health concerns that college students face so that we can create better programs to promote a healthier environment and truly address their needs,” Woodson expressed.

Another health group that can be found on campus this semester through the Center for Health and Counseling is Pathways, a personal development and support group for female students to come together to talk about current issues that are affecting college age women.

Pathways is expected to meet on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m., starting Feb. 11. For more information or to enroll and schedule an introductory meeting by Feb. 6, contact Jill Whitaker, mental health counselor, at whitakji@lewisu.edu.
