Senior Spotlight: Kyle Hayes

Whether it’s directing gospel choir, playing intramurals, or being a beloved RA, you won’t find too many people on campus who haven’t heard the name Kyle Hayes.

Born and raised in the South side of Chicago, Kyle is now a senior at Lewis and will graduate this May with a degree in multimedia journalism.

Although it seems he’s involved in almost everything on campus, Lewis actually wasn’t his first choice.

“I was one of those kids who wanted to go to a larger school based on the things that I heard and what I saw in movies. My mom actually chose Lewis for me. She was in love with the campus and my grandmother graduated from Lewis’ College of Nursing way back when,” said Hayes.

Kyle has made the most of his experience here at Lewis, keeping very busy with Gospel Choir, Reslife, Intramurals, Club Basketball, Club Volleyball, and being an OGL. He also takes part in National Communications Association and Campus Media. One of his fondest memories at Lewis is being a “3-peat 5v5 intramural basketball champion.”

Being involved in so many extracurricular activities brings a feeling of comradery, and that’s one of the things Hayes loves most.

“I enjoy the family atmosphere. Because Lewis is so small it’s sort of easy getting to know people. I felt welcomed from the time I stepped foot on this campus. And it’s defi- nitely true what they say, your college friends will last a lifetime,” Kyle said.

Kyle says he will miss Lewis and the close, tight-knit community that it is.

“One thing Lewis is known for is its sense of community. I’m almost certain people in the real world aren’t as sincere or as caring. Life is also going to be a lot different. I’ve grown accustomed to having work, school, the gym, food and friends a walk away,” said Hayes.

As a final piece of advice to all his peers, Kyle offers this: “Life is full of opportunities, sometimes you just have to throw yourself. #turnup.”
