For the Students, by the Students: With STUDENT GOVERNING BOARD

Sixty-five percent of all Lewis students are commuters. That means the majority of students do not live on campus and must drive to school each day.  This means 65% percent of you share similar needs and have similar issues with our campus.

Recently, all commuters were sent out a survey on behalf of the Commuter Council. Here at Student Governing Board (SGB), we encourage you to take this survey, as it will help us to make sure your voice is heard. It will take no more than five minutes, and you get entered to win a $50 gift card.

For those of you that missed the e-mail you can go to take the survey and get your chance to win that $50 gift card. If you are wondering how you as a commuter can get involved on campus, SGB facilitates the Commuter Council, which would be the perfect place to start. Each year, SGB provides the Commuter Council with a budget to use for whatever it pleases. In years past, the Commuter Council has given out free breakfast to commuters, held dances and facilitated forums to ensure the commuters’ voice is heard.

The next Commuter Council meeting will be held Wednesday, Oct. 27, in the Big Red Room (in the Student Union) at 1 p.m. and meet every other Wednesday until the end of the semester. We encourage you to stop by and say hello.

On a side note, on behalf of the entire Student Governing Board, we would like to extend a big thank you to the over 500 students who attended this year’s fall formal, and an even bigger thank you to the students, staff and faculty who cast over 1,600 votes to elect  Christopher Hueg and Amy Adams as your Flyer King and Queen for 2010.

Thank you for your support, we look forward to seeing you at our Spring Formal in April 2011.

Remember SGB is the voice for every student, whether resident or commuter we are here for you. Feel free to contact us via e-mail or stop by our office anytime and let us know how we are doing
