Lewis mourns the loss of professor Dr. Matthew Lange, assistant professor of psychology, who was killed Jan. 27 in Naperville.

Lange was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a parked car outside Scullen Middle School, where he was reportedly picking up his four-year-old son. Law enforcement officials confirmed he was taken to Edward Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Naperville Crime Stoppers are offering a $5,000 reward for information.

Naperville police are assuring the community that it did not appear to be a random act.

Lange, 37, was the director of the accelerated psychology program. He was teaching several undergraduate courses at the time of his death, including Personality Psychology and Adult Development.

“He devoted himself to teaching and mentoring our students and was, without question, one of our finest teachers,” said fellow psychology professor Dr. John Greenwood.

Services were held for the Oswego native Thursday, Feb. 2, in Aurora.
