Hello from Lewis University’s Alumni Association!

As graduation rapidly approaches, I wanted to take a moment to remind all the graduating seniors to take advantage of everything that the Alumni Association has to offer Lewis University alumni, which include networking events, volunteering opportunities and ways to keep in touch with fellow classmates.

The Lewis University Alumni Association (LUAA), which boasts 36,000 alumni living in all 50 states and in 35 countries all over the world, will assist you in making strong career connections by hosting four networking events throughout the year in convenient locations in the Chicagoland area and surrounding suburbs. Last year, networking events were hosted in downtown Chicago, Naperville and Lewis University’s Oak Brook Campus, giving alumni multiple opportunities for networking in convenient locations. There are two upcoming networking events taking place in the next few months. The first one will be at Goose Island Brewery Wrigleyville (3535 N Clark St, Chicago, IL) on Thursday May 22 and the second event will be at Lewis’ Oak Brook Campus (1111 W 22nd St #700, Oak Brook, IL) on Thursday July 31. There is no charge to attend either event, and you can register on the alumni website at www. alumni.lewisu.edu.

In addition to the networking events, Lewis currently has two alumni affinity groups that promote continued learning and provide networking opportunities to current students and alumni – Lewis University Nursing Alumni Network (LU-NAN) and Lewis University Aviation Alumni Organization (LU-AAO). Both groups are full of enthusiastic alumni who wish to provide support for current students and alumni in their respective fields. If you are interested in either LU-NAN or LU- AAO, contact Joe Volin ‘08, Assistant Director of Alumni Relations, at 815-836-5472.

The people involved with the affinity groups are excellent examples of alumni volunteers! There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for alumni, with time commitment levels and options for alumni who don’t reside in Illinois taken into consideration. To volunteer your expertise or to share note-worthy experiences with current student and alumni, you can be a guest speaker on campus or host a webinar from wherever you’re located. You could also volunteer with Career Services or be a presenter at the networking events.

If you are able to come back to campus to volunteer with current students, alumni are always welcome to help the freshman move into the dorms on Move-In Days in August, be a game show host during one day of ICE class or help the graduates prepare to walk across the stage at commencement ceremonies in either December or May. For more information on different volunteering opportunities, contact Margaret Grabowski ’10, assistant director of alumni relations, at 815-836-5944.

It’s easy to grab your diploma at commencement and move on from Lewis, but you’re only doing yourself a disservice. The LUAA is available to help you keep the relationships you formed at Lewis strong and flourishing. You are encouraged to join Lewis CONNECT, an online community that will help you connect with long lost friends, former classmates and other Lewis University alumni.

Stay connected to Lewis University! Whether you attend a networking event, participate in a volunteering opportunity or you give to the University like many of you have done for the 2014 Senior Challenge, you need to remain involved. The worst thing you could do is sever your ties with Lewis once you finish your academic career when there is still so much more that Lewis can offer you.
