Lewis University celebrated its birthday on Wed. April 23 by holding its annual Birthday Bash at the University Commons.

The Birthday Bash offered all students an opportunity to play games and eat food, and all of the proceeds raised through the activities helping support the Nursing Department’s Coin-a-Palooza, who teams up with Lewis University’s radio station, WLRA, to help fund the Advocate Children’s Hospital’s Family Assistance Fund.

While Sodexo helped cater the event, using the gazebo located outside of the Flyer’s Den to barbecue for those in attendance, different clubs and groups from around campus set up tables and games throughout the University Common, offering coupons that students could use for items in a small gift shop.  Games included Tetherball, Skee-Ball, Plinko and a tight rope that dared contestants to walk across a small rope tied between two trees.

While the games were fun, the anniversary of Lewis University’s opening was the real reason to come out and celebrate.  Lewis began operations in 1932, making this the 82nd birthday for the school.

Students got to celebrate Lewis’ birth, while also giving back to a great cause by improving the lives of those affected by illness.  Almost everyone who attended the event would be able to tell you that it was a great event, and we all look forward to celebrating an 83rd birthday next year.
