Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201311:21 pm

Thanks for following, everyone! This has been really fun, I hope you enjoyed the ride! And, as always…LET’S GO HAWKS!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201311:20 pm

But now, from all of us to all of you, thank you, good night and have a great summer. Congratulations also to the class of 2013.

Hawks win 5-1, advancing to the semifinals after taking the series 4-1.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201311:16 pm

Apologies, meant in the paper and online.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201311:15 pm

We aren’t going far though. We will be back in the fall with the Around the NHL columns, which you can see here and online. It’s always a pleasure Tony!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201311:14 pm

And on that note, this is the last live blog that Tony and I are doing for the playoffs. I thank him for helping me make this blog the best it can be, and to Dave Hansen, Michael Gates and Andrea Earnest for all of their help on the technical front.

But most importantly, Tony and I want to thank each of you who have followed along, who have contributed and watched with us the rise of the Hawks over this first round.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201311:12 pm

Definitely. Yet, all Hawks fans will be following closely the progress.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201311:11 pm

Now is the time for Toews and Kane to lead the way. They were a bit slow in Round 1. Kaner and Tazer need to start scoring.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201311:10 pm

Three Stars of the Game: 1. Marian Hossa (CHI) 2. Corey Crawford (CHI) 3. Marcus Kruger (CHI)

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201311:10 pm

Any key players to watch out for?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201311:09 pm

Keep up the intensity, get shots to the net and don’t over-think. Just stick to the formula.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201311:08 pm

What will need to be key for the Hawks as they go to the semis? They certainly need to keep the strength.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201311:08 pm

Corey Crawford, man. This kid is not the same goalie last year. He’s much, much better.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201311:07 pm

Last time the Hawks went to the semis? 2010, when they won the Cup.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201311:07 pm

The Blackhawks win 5-1 and win the series 4-1. Hawks will go on to the semifinals!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201311:07 pm

Period 3, this match and this series are in the books! Hawks win 5-1, taking the 4-1 win, taking the advance for the first time since 2010.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201311:06 pm

The final minute starts now.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201311:05 pm

1:25 left in the third. Hawks still lead 5-1. Hawks will advance, and Minnesota will have to figure out what needs to improve.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201311:04 pm

Over 21,000 at the UC tonight.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201311:01 pm

SOG 31-20 in favor of CHI.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201311:00 pm

Now a PP for the Hawks. Things can’t really get much worse for MIN.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201311:00 pm

80 seconds in the Hawks Power Play.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201310:57 pm

Hawks have not loosened up. Wild are doing everything they can, but doesn’t look like it’ll be enough.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201310:46 pm

Offside call. 9:40 in the 3rd.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201310:46 pm

Blatant offsides there.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201310:45 pm

The Wild’s page, to be specific.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201310:45 pm

Lots of Wild fans expressing outrage at Yeo on the Facebook page.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201310:43 pm

Teams full strength, 5-1 good guys. 12:11 left in the 3rd.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201310:43 pm

PP expires.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201310:41 pm

Chaos in front of the net = Hawks goal. Sharp stuff in the loose puck.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201310:41 pm

GOAL!!!! The Sharp Shooter strikes again! 5-1 Hawks!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201310:40 pm

Two-man advantage now for the Hawks. Things looking grim for the Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201310:39 pm

Hawks call timeout.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201310:38 pm

Hawks on the PP

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201310:31 pm

Kuemper saves.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201310:28 pm

Here we go with period 3. Can the Hawks win the series?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201310:22 pm

Lance Briggs of the Chicago Bears is at the Madhouse on Madison tonight, shooting the puck during the second intermission.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201310:15 pm

SOG: Hawks 23, Wild 18.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201310:14 pm

If the Hawks can play the same style for the last 20 minutes, they’re in good shape.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201310:12 pm

2nd period is in the books! Hawks lead 4-1.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201310:09 pm

Pat Foley and Eddy Olczyk just having fun now. That’s how much the Hawks seem to be controlling this game.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 201310:08 pm

There have been some chances, but for the most part, things are pretty quiet.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 201310:04 pm

Icing call against the Hawks.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:58 pm

Offside called.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:55 pm

Off those crazy boards. Got to love that 3rd line.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:54 pm

Andrew Shaw figures, “Eh, let’s just get another one.”

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:54 pm

And the Hawks get their revenge through Shaw!!! 4-1!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:53 pm

GOAL!!! Mitchell makes this a 3-1 game.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:53 pm

Mitchell nets one for the Wild. 3-1 Hawks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:52 pm

Wild PP expires.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:51 pm

GOALPOST.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:50 pm

Penalty for the Hawks. PP for the Wild.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:45 pm

Darcy Kuemper is coming to the Wild net. Harding is done for the night.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:44 pm

Hossa finds the loose puck, puts it right in! Do the Wild take a timeout?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:43 pm

And Hossa makes it 3! GOAL!!!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:43 pm

The Blackhawks are leading in hits?! What?!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:40 pm

Yeah, Hawks look MUCH better than in games 3 and 4.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:39 pm

Kruger wraps around the net, and it looks like be hits it off Harding’s back right into the net! 2-0 Hawks!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:39 pm

GOAL!!! Kruger gets the wraparound gives the Hawks a 2-0 lead!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:36 pm

Dumb turnover by CHI, but Crawford bails his team out. 1-0 Hawks with 19:04 left in the 2nd.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:34 pm

Second period is underway. Hawks win the draw.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:34 pm

Here we go with period 2.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:34 pm

But at this point it is still up in the air. As you mentioned, anything could happen.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:28 pm

As for the Eastern Conference, my predictions are Boston, Washington, and Pittsburgh. The only “real” prediction in that one, though, is the Washington Capitals, who are tied at 2 games apiece with the New York Rangers. I just think the Caps are on fire, and the Rangers are too iffy.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:26 pm

Well, the only sure thing in the Western Conference as of right now is the San Jose Sharks, who swept the Canucks and advanced to the next round already. The Ducks are most likely to eliminate the Red Wings, but nowadays, you never know.

Same goes with the Kings/Blues series. LA has surprised us before, and with their 3-2 lead, it’s looking like they could pull it off. If there’s one team I’d never count out, though, it’s probably the St. Louis Blues.

If the next four teams who advance to the semifinals in the WC are the Hawks, Ducks, Kings, and Sharks, it’ll be a tough series no matter what. The Ducks had the Hawks’ number all season. The Sharks did well against VAN, and the Kings have proven before they can pull it off. Either way, the Hawks have a challenge.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:23 pm

What’s your thoughts on the other actions in the league and any potential opponents for the Hawks, when it comes to Anaheim or Detroit?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:19 pm

Well, the Hawks’ big struggle this past season was playing a full 60-minute game. As long as they keep up the pressure, get pucks to the net and shine defensively, they could look at winning this series, which would see the Hawks advancing past the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2010.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:17 pm

The Hawks appear stronger in this period — you think they can maintain this Tony?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:16 pm

Blackhawks take a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. SOG are 10 even.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:15 pm

Period 1 is in the books — 1-0 Hawks!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:14 pm

Wild trying to get a quick one before the period ends.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:12 pm

Rozsival escapes without the penalty. Lucky dog.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:08 pm

Hossa, thanks to the Captain!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:08 pm

GOAL!!! Hossa with help from Toews makes this 1-0 to the Hawks!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:05 pm

4:59 to go in the 1st period.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20139:04 pm

Another goal attempt, another save by Crawford.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:03 pm

Clutterbuck makes me say things that…well, aren’t appropriate for this live blog.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20139:02 pm

Hawks are looking a little more comfortable out there tonight.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:58 pm

I forgot earlier to mention the series standing when it came to the Islanders and the Penguins. Pittsburgh has a 3-2 lead. They’ll play again Saturday.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20138:56 pm

Nice block by Keith. Hawks kill the penalty, which leads to a Blackhawks 2-on-1. No goals result.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:56 pm

PP expires.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20138:55 pm

In my honest opinion, the fact Crawford isn’t in the running for the Vezina trophy (league’s best goaltender) is absurd (Although it might have to do with how many games are played. Not sure.).

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20138:53 pm

Face-off violation? Hawks getting a dumb penalty. Rather unnecessary, if you ask me.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:52 pm

Face off violation. Hawks Penalty. PP for Wild.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20138:47 pm

Near hook by Toews.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:46 pm

This news from Montreal — the Senators have won against the Canadiens 6-1, and the series. Montreal is out of the playoffs.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:46 pm

Sharp tries to get it back to Wild ice but is unsuccessful.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:45 pm

Another goal by the Wild is out of the question, as Crawford saves. Harding saves again for a goal attempt by the Hawks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 9, 20138:44 pm

Hello everyone! Sorry for the delay!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:44 pm

Goal attempt failed as Harding saves.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:43 pm

Nick Leddy guides the puck back to Wild ice.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:42 pm

A quick note — never fear, Tony Lyen will be joining us shortly.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:41 pm

And we’re off — Hjalmersson guides it through Chicago territory. Toews now chases the puck.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:40 pm

As we prepare for the face off, Pittsburgh has won their match against New York 4-0, and Ottawa now leads Montreal 6-1.

A couple of league updates before we proceed:

Ottawa is leading Montreal 5-1, and are likely going to finish the series at the Bell Centre tonight (going in they were leading 3-1).
Pittsburgh is leading the Islanders 4-0 as the 3rd closes.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:33 pm

Ray Emery and Dave Bolland are still out for tonight’s match, but for the Wild, Josh Harding is back after leaving in Game 4.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:32 pm

On Tuesday night, the Hawks beat Minnesota 3-0, extending the series lead to 3-1.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 9, 20138:31 pm

Evening one and all! Welcome to the Flyer’s live coverage of Game 5 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, where the Hawks could advance with a win tonight.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 8, 201310:23 pm

Hey guys! Take a well deserved finals break (or celebrate the end of finals) and join Tony and I tomorrow night for Game 5 of the playoffs. The Hawks are back at the UC. Will they take the win to end the series? Or can the Wild make a comeback?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201311:18 pm

Thanks to all and good night. as a reminder — Hawks win 3-0, taking a 3-1 series lead.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201311:17 pm

Thanks for following everyone! Good luck on finals, and of course, GO HAWKS!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201311:16 pm

We will see if that can happen and the Hawks can take this series, and we’ll have it covered for you Thursday night!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201311:15 pm

Alex, the Hawks need to play to the home crowd. The Hawks have the advantage now. They have home ice in a game that can end this series. Hawks need to keep up the pace, get those shots in, and be disciplined. If they can do that, we’ll see the Hawks advance past the first round for the first time since 2010, when they won the Stanley Cup.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201311:14 pm

Now Tony, what will be key as the Hawks return to the UC Thursday night?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201311:13 pm

That’ll do it! The Blackhawks shutout the Wild 3-0 and take a 3-1 series lead.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201311:13 pm

Game 4 is in the books! HAWKS WIN!! 3-0!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201311:12 pm

Duncan Keith has had a long 24 hours. New baby, travel to MIN, play some hockey, register the most TOI on your team. He’ll sleep well tonight.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201311:11 pm

Kane sets up a nice play, trying to give Sharp the hat trick. No such luck.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201311:07 pm

Timeout Chicago.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201311:05 pm

Glad to see the Hawks still making the Wild work for it. Teams often just focus on defense, which can lead to a collapse.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201311:02 pm

Therefore, should the Hawks move Bolland this summer?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201311:01 pm

Bolland has been out. Shaw has been in. Shaw is aggressive, pesty, and can most definitely score.

Bolland’s nickname is “The Rat,” but that could easily be Shaw’s too.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:59 pm

Bickell from a bad angle! Bad goal to let up. Hawks lead 3-0.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:59 pm

GOAL!!!! Bickell gets it 3-0 for the Hawks!!!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:59 pm

Wild kill it. Hawks keeping up the pressure though.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:59 pm

PP expires.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:56 pm

Wild PK will be aggressive here. They need a goal. And they can’t afford to let up another one to the Hawks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:56 pm

Repairs = done. Hawks to the PP.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:53 pm

A bit of an issue with the glass behind Corey Crawford. Maintenance crew fixing it now.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:52 pm

The Wild going to the box. Crosscheck from Coyle on Kruger. Hawks to the PP.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:52 pm

And Coyle gets the penalty for Minnesota, with a Power Play coming for the Hawks.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:51 pm

Game 5 will be held on Thursday night at 8:30 back at the UC. Tony and I will be keeping you up to date on this blog.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:50 pm

Not much to report thus far. 10:47 left.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:45 pm

Price of Montreal, I should add.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:45 pm

Am reading that Carey Price is questionable for Game 5 of the Montreal-Ottawa match. Price sustained a lower body injury in the game Tuesday.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:44 pm

13:43 in the 3rd, still 2-0.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:43 pm

Hawks have yet to have a shot on goal this period.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:42 pm

Another brilliant kill.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:42 pm

Power Play will expire. Penalty killed.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:42 pm

Niklas Backstrom is on the bench for the Wild as their “emergency goalie.”

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:41 pm

Crawford keeps saving as the power play is stopped at 42 seconds.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:41 pm

I’d love to see a Saad breakaway right out of the box for a goal. Hey, a guy can dream…

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:39 pm

The question is — can the Hawks kill this penalty?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:39 pm

The moment the Hawks successfully kill the penalty, they decide to take another one. This time, it’s a tripping penalty on Saad.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:38 pm

But now penalty once again for the Hawks. They need to stay out of the box.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:38 pm

Crawford saves shot from Bouchard!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:37 pm

45 seconds of PP left.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:36 pm

Hawks have some nice presence in front of their own net. Getting those rebounds out of the zone.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:35 pm

Hawks going to (yet another) PK. Kane gets a delay of game. Crucial PP for the Wild.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:35 pm

Forgot to finish my thought on that one. For all you new hockey fans, Mikko Koivu is the captain of the Wild.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:34 pm

Wild captain is a -5 in this series. Ouch.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:34 pm

The third period is underway.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:33 pm

Hawks REALLY need to challenge Kuemper and give him some hell. He’s young and inexperienced. Take advantage of that.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:32 pm

The 3rd period is on the way. Jamie Kompon says attention to detail has been crucial.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:31 pm

Agree 100 percent with the keys.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:31 pm

Still 2-1 in San Jose. Sharks are hoping to get rid of the Canucks. Big questions: if the Canucks get swept, who goes this off-season? Coach Alain Vigneault could be a possibility.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:30 pm

Key’s for the Blackhawks:

Keep up the pressure: This has been something Alex and I have talked a lot about, but it couldn’t be more true. Get pucks to the net, be physical, make the right passes, and push the Wild d-men.

Set up plays: The Hawks need to take control in the Wild zone. ‘Nuff said.

Discipline: Don’t take stupid penalties. Stay out of the box, but be aggressive. Shaw can (and should) be a pest, but don’t do something you’ll regret by the end of the 3rd.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:21 pm

Giveaways are a little too much for the Wild to tolerate: 11 compared to the Blackhawks’ 4.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:21 pm

20 blocked shots on behalf of CHI. 6 for MIN.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:19 pm

MIN leads hits 14-9.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:18 pm

Holy cow: Ryan Suter already registering 21:36 of ice time. As good as he is, that’s a LOT of minutes.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:17 pm

Second is done. 2-0 Hawks lead. Hawks also lead SOG 17-13

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:15 pm

Period 2 in the books — Hawks up 2-0!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:15 pm

Play is stopped at 25 seconds.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:14 pm

Less than one minute left in the 2nd.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:13 pm

Some nice pressure and shots from both side, still 2-0 Hawks, though.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:07 pm

Andrew Shaw is half goon, half goal-scorer. I love it.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:05 pm

Shaw gets into a fight near the goal with some Wild players.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 201310:04 pm

Hello also to our friend and colleague Angela who is following along tonight!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 201310:02 pm

The penalty expires. Wild tried to set some plays up, but the pucks couldn’t get to the net. Good guys still lead 2-0 with 5:37 left in the 2nd.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:59 pm

Nonetheless, my opinion isn’t considered among the referees, and the Hawks are on the PK.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:59 pm

Now, I know this isn’t the place to probably vent this, but I think interference is the most useless call in hockey. Isn’t that the players job? You’re SUPPOSED to interfere with the play.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:59 pm

Power Play starts now for the Wild.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:58 pm

Rozsival is getting a penalty for a hit on Clutterbuck. Interference is the call.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:58 pm

Here comes a penalty for the Hawks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:57 pm

SOG- Wild 12, Hawks 11.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:56 pm

Wild fans are seeing missed calls. Game goes on.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:55 pm

This is getting intense! Boos fill the crowd of the XCel Energy Center.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:55 pm

Pure chaos in the CHI zone. Shots, hits, saves, turnovers. No goals, though.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:55 pm

Hawks are getting it going.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:55 pm

Can the Sharp Shooter do it again?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:54 pm

Hossa almost had a tap-in goal, but Kuemper gets a pad on it.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:54 pm

Hossa nearly got a tap in but blocked.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:53 pm

Stalberg got a shot in on Falk, feeling the effects now on the bench.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:53 pm

Speedy Stalberg makes his way in, shot misses.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:52 pm

At the end of the first period, the Sharks are up 2-1. Goals by Pavelski and Burns for the Sharks, Raymond for the Canucks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:49 pm

Kaner was hoping for a Sharp redirect. Smart play.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:48 pm

Even strength now.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:47 pm

Offside play sees play stopped. 14:12 in 2nd.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:45 pm

The Blackhawks need to be more disciplined. Can’t keep relying on the PK to get the job done.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:45 pm

Oduya gets 2 minutes for cross checking. Hawks to the PK.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:45 pm

Here comes a penalty for the Hawks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:44 pm

Wild get a few opportunities, but they don’t lead to a goal. Still 2-0 Hawks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:42 pm

Hawks are looking a little stronger in the Wild zone.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:42 pm

Darcy Kuemper, for the record, is not a bad goalie. It’s his first appearance in the playoffs.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:40 pm

Indeed!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:39 pm

Well, I guess that’s why they call him “Sharp-Shooter.”

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:39 pm

Sharp scores on a nice shot! First shot on Darcy Kuemper goes in.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:39 pm

GOAL!!!! Sharp the dominator!!! It’s 2-0 Hawks!!!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:37 pm

Darcy Kuemper in net for the Wild.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:36 pm

We’re back for more hockey!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:20 pm

The San Jose Sharks are up 1-0 against the Canucks. If San Jose wins, the sweep the ‘Nucks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:19 pm

End of the first. Hawks lead 1-0, SOG 7-5 in favor of MIN.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:19 pm

Period 1 is in the books — 1-0 to the Hawks!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:18 pm

And I do have a feeling Kuemper is going in. It would be stupid if Yeo didn’t rest Harding. He is in distress.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:17 pm

56 seconds to go — Harding giving some signs.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:17 pm

I’m wondering if Darcy Kuemper is coming in for the second period.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:16 pm

MIN kills it.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:16 pm

Some excellent passing on behalf of Chicago. :42 left in the CHI PP

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:15 pm

Hawks need to take advantage of Harding’s possible injury on the PP.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:14 pm

Harding is being seen by a trainer. Back-up (and excellent prospect) Darcy Kuemper waiting to see if he gets the call. Doesn’t look like it.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:12 pm

Penalty to the Wild for taking down Sharp. Some nice work by the Hawks, but the Wild are definitely responding. 2 minutes to Spurgeon for tripping.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:12 pm

Here comes a Power Play for the Hawks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:11 pm

Toews with a near goal. Harding is looking hurt.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:09 pm

And the Senators beat the Habs 3-2!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:08 pm

This game has once again been (surprise surprise) quite physical.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:06 pm

SOG 7-5 MIN

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:05 pm

Hawks kill it.. Now applying some pressure in the Wild zone.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:04 pm

Suter is really taking control of this Wild PP. Obvious why he’s a Norris Trophy finalist.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20139:04 pm

A quick shout out — hello to my friend Maryse who lives in Ottawa. She’s thrilled of the 2-2 tie as OT comes forth for the Senators and the Canadiens.

45 seconds on Power Play for Minnesota.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:02 pm

While we’re waiting, all I have to say about the Isles/Pens series is this: I don’t know what is scarier, the Penguins or an Islanders who can effectively match (and beat) the Pens.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:01 pm

With Sharp’s goal, Hossa nabs his 100th playoff point in 134 playoff games.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20139:00 pm

Carcillo is going to the box. Carbomb haters go wild.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:57 pm

Goal is being announced as Patrick Sharp’s goal.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:57 pm

Handzus, who Pat Foley just called “awful in this series, nets a goal for the Hawks, putting them up 1-0. Nice work by Hossa to make that happen.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:56 pm

GOAL!!!! Handzus get the lead 1-0!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:55 pm

Nice steal leads to nice blocked shot, which leads to a nice keep, which leads to a save by Harding.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:50 pm

Still scoreless, but the Hawks need to get control of the puck.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:49 pm

SOG 6-2 in favor of the Wild.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:49 pm

Knock on wood, but Crawford is establishing himself as a playoff-caliber goaltender, a drastic change from the 2012 playoffs.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:48 pm

Corner fight ending with an epic save by Crawford.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:48 pm

The way the Hawks are getting pucks to the net is much different that how they did during the regular season. Before, it seemed natural. Now, it seems rushed and panicked.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:47 pm

Ooh! Cool development just out of the Ottawa/Montreal match! It’s tied 2 a piece. The length of the 3rd left? Only 23 seconds.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:47 pm

Nice defensive play by Kane.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:45 pm

PP is done and dusted. 16:45 in the 1st.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:45 pm

A reminder that we’d love to hear from you tonight! You can post a comment below, write on the Flyer’s Facebook page (facebook.com/thelewisflyer) or tweet @thelewisflyer.

You can tweet us @alexthejourno & @aclyen.

You can email me also — alex@thelewisflyer.com.

Tony is also giving shout outs tonight as well! Come join us and say hi!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:44 pm

While the Blackhawks PP has been atrocious, that PK has been amazing.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:42 pm

Lots of pressure by MIN leads to a CHI penalty. Handzus gets 2 minutes for interference.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:42 pm

Crawford saves an attempt of a goal, but a PP for the Wild is forthcoming.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:40 pm

And here we go with the face off!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:40 pm

Islanders win. 6-4

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:40 pm

Crawford looks ready and raring to go to do more epic saving, as is Harding.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:40 pm

Thus far, Patrick Kane has been a +4 in this series against the Wild. Rookie Brandon Saad? -2.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:37 pm

New York has without question giving Pittsburgh a run for its money.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:37 pm

Marc-Andre Fleury has been a hot mess in PIT. The goaltending issue with the Penguins is so bad, even Canucks fans feel bad.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:36 pm

My pal Bob Mason has also pointed out something I’ve been following with one simple phrase: Holy Islanders. The heavily favorited Pittsburgh Penguins are down 6-4 to the comeback-kid Islanders. Because in the playoffs, being the first seed means essentially nothing.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:35 pm

Indeed. Harding is starting tonight again for the Wild, and before we begin with this match, a couple of updates:

New York leads Pittsburgh 6-4 as the 3rd comes to a close.
Montreal leads Ottawa 2-1 with over 5 minutes in the 3rd.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:35 pm

Jason Pominville is in for MIN. Pominville was the Sabres’ captain before he was traded to the Wild before the Trade Deadline.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:33 pm

People are always on the fence about Carbomb, but he can skate with the same pace as some of the top guys. He’s just as physical as Bollig, but maybe he can do something a little extra.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:31 pm

Emery and Bolland are out, but Carcillo is in tonight. Do you think that will make a difference?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:31 pm

The top guys (Toews, Kane, Hossa, Sharp) need to step it up. They aren’t scoring like many have been expecting. The top two lines (20-19-81 and 10-26/16/65-88) need to be leaders now.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 7, 20138:29 pm

Evening one and all! It is supposed to be an exciting match as Game 4 gets underway soon. Tony, what will you be looking for tonight from the Hawks?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 7, 20138:27 pm

Howdy, everyone! It’s finals week, so time to sit back, relax and enjoy some playoff hockey!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20135:20 pm

Tony and I will have that for you Tuesday night. Thank you for joining us. Thanks to Dave Hansen and co for the work. But for now, thank you, good night and have a good week.

The Wild win it 3-2, with the Hawks still leading the series 2-1.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20135:18 pm

The Hawks and the Wild had a very tough match but showed both teams’ value. Come Tuesday, Game 4 will likely be another close match.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20135:17 pm

Zucker had the goal for the Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20135:16 pm

GOAL! Wild win it 3-1, with the stats at 2-1 Hawks for the series.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20135:16 pm

Souter shoots, blocked by Crawford.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20135:15 pm

Puck goes out of play 90 seconds in.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20135:12 pm

And here we go with OT.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20135:01 pm

What do you think needs to happen in OT?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20135:00 pm

Another intermission report, another rerun (maybe) by NBC of the Islanders-Penguins match.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:57 pm

Regulation is done. It’s tied 2 a piece. OT is next. The first goal wins.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:56 pm

Out of play with 11 seconds to go.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:56 pm

Shaw goes around behind…back into the Chicago zone.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:52 pm

Kane with the goal.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:52 pm

GOAL!!!! It is now a 2-2 game!!!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:49 pm

Still 2-1 Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:45 pm

Minnesota calls a timeout.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:41 pm

Handzus tries to shoot and the puck goes out of play.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:39 pm

8:27 to go in the 3rd. Still 2-1 Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:36 pm

Clutterbuck shoots and blocked by Crawford.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:34 pm

From Tony: Hawks are getting shots, but they’re not good ones. Need to keep poise and control, set up plays, and be aggressive.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:33 pm

19,238 in the XCel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:32 pm

What do you think? Can the Hawks tie it up? Or will there be a Game 5?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:24 pm

Zach Parise had the goal there.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:23 pm

GOAL! Minnesota has broken the tie. It’s 2-1 to the Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:22 pm

Another shot on goal, another epic save by Crawford.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:20 pm

Heading into the end of regulation, we’d love to know what you think of the game and what should be done moving forward.

As we go into period 3, the Wild had 29 SOGs compared to 17 for the Hawks. 29 face offs were won by the Wild compared to 18 for the Hawks.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:07 pm

A personal observation — why is NBC constantly rerunning the Islanders-Penguins highlights?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20134:00 pm

2nd period is done. No changes. 1-1. But there is a collision going on as Seabrook goes down.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:55 pm

Here comes a PP for the Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:54 pm

From Tony: Minnesota has had control of this entire second period. For the 3rd period, the Hawks need to be more in control. They haven’t had possession of the puck as much as they’d like.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:54 pm

Here comes another penalty. Oduya and Clutterbuck are going at it

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:44 pm

Power play now expires. Toews is back.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:42 pm

1 second on the PP.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:42 pm

Setoguchi tries to shoot but goal blocked by Crawford.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:40 pm

4 on 4 expires, and a power play now occurs for the Wild because of the Toews penalty.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:39 pm

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:38 pm

Cullen tries to pass but blocked by Crawford.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:36 pm

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:33 pm

Crawford is on the ball with the saves.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:27 pm

Here comes Leddy and Sharp gets across. PP is expired.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:26 pm

30 seconds to go in PP.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:25 pm

Hossa trying to work shots through, back to Keith and back to Hossa.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:24 pm

Frolik and Falk get into a fight. Falk gets the penalty. Stand by for a Hawks PP.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:21 pm

Setoguchi tries to get a goal in but Crawford puts a stop to it.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:17 pm

And here we go into the 2nd. Crawford starts with an epic save.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:14 pm

The Wild had more SOGs than the Hawks (15-9). 13 face offs were won by the Wild compared to 8 by the Hawks.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20133:11 pm

Getting ready for the 2nd period. Who will break the tie?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:59 pm

From Tony: Wild have been taking control of this first period. Setoguchi and Shaw getting pretty heated.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:59 pm

After an exhilarating first period, it is tied at 1-1. What do you think should happen 2nd period?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:55 pm

GOAL! Bouchard scores for the Wild and its 1-1.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:43 pm

Beautiful saves from Crawford. Epic offense.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:34 pm

From Tony: Hawks very strong offensively, but Minnesota is doing well to respond.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:30 pm

From Tony: The Hawks have been super physical in this series. A vast contrast from the regular season.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:30 pm

Toews disagrees with last move as puck goes out of play.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:27 pm

Harding blocks another goal attempt.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:26 pm

Leddy leads it back into the Chicago zone, taken in by Sharp.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:25 pm

Frolik tries to shoot but Harding blocks it.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:21 pm

Angela says she’s not been following any other series — just the Hawks-Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:21 pm

And with the face off away we go.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:20 pm

What series outside the Hawks-Wild matches have you been following? Who has surprised you? Was it Craig Anderson of Ottawa, Sidney Crosby’s return to Pittsburgh? Let us know.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:17 pm

Outside of this match and the Hawks match coming up, there are two other matches tonight. Ottawa will take on Montreal in Game 3 of their series, while Vancouver will take on San Jose in Game 3.

San Jose leads Vancouver 2-0 in the series, while Montreal and Ottawa are tied with 1 win a piece.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:15 pm

Hello to our friend and colleague Angela Cotta who is following on this afternoon. Good to have you with us.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:13 pm

And here we go with the match. The Penguins win it taking a 2-1 lead.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:07 pm

If you’re watching the game on TV, the Islanders and the Penguins are in OT with a 4-4 tie. That game will cease broadcast on NBC itself once the Hawks-Wild game starts.

A reminder, if a playoff game goes into overtime, there are no shootouts. First goal wins.

Series is tied at 1 a piece.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:03 pm

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 5, 20132:01 pm

Afternoon all and welcome to live coverage of Game 3 of the Stanley Cup playoffs! Tony will not be joining us today, but has told me he will be sending in material.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201311:18 pm

Thank you to all those who tuned in and helped out! Go Hawks!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201311:15 pm

Definitely. And come Sunday, hopefully the Hawks will make it 3-0. On that note, that’s all from us. Tony and I will be back with you on Sunday afternoon for live coverage. A reminder that we are with you for the first round only. We’ll start our coverage just before 2. Hope you can join us!

Thanks to Dave Hansen and co for the work, and for us both, thank you and good night. The Hawks take a 2-0 lead in the series with a 5-2 win.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201311:15 pm

SOG Hawks 48, Wild 28.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201311:14 pm

The Hawks NEED to win one of the next two in Minnesota. I mean, if they can sweep, that’d be perfect. But at least get one win in the next two for sure.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201311:13 pm

Emery will definitely stay as backup. Hawks need to keep the pressure up like they did today. They played really solid. Took shots, got pucks to the net, VERY physical.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201311:12 pm

IF Bolland is back, it’ll be interesting, because Handzus is playing really well with Sharp and Kane (he had an assist and a +2 tonight).

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201311:12 pm

Final thoughts Tony? What sort of Hawks team will we see on Sunday?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201311:11 pm

The Hawks have renewed the view that they are a force to be reckoned with. Watch out Minny, it’ll be good.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201311:11 pm

My mom says 6, my girlfriend, Katie, says 7, I said 9. Either way, it was a lot.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201311:09 pm

Time to count the “you know”s. GO!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201311:09 pm

3 stars of the Game: 3. Sharp 2. Crawford. 1. Frolik

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201311:08 pm

Definitely. What do you think will be at stake as they go to St. Paul? With Q likely to announce the return of Emery and Bolland, what team will we see here on Sunday?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201311:07 pm

HAWKS WIN!!! 5-2 over the Wild!! They lead 2-0!!!!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201311:07 pm

Hawks draw a penalty on Koivu, who heads to the box yet again.

Scandella scores with 3:31 left to bring the Wild within 2.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:59 pm

GOAL! Scandella makes it 4-2 Hawks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:56 pm

Patrick Kane HAS to have eyes in the back of his head. Great vision on the ice.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:56 pm

Another goal by Sharp! Beautiful pass by Kane!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:56 pm

GOAL!!! Sharp and Kane help make it 4-1!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:52 pm

Scandella is limping to the bench. He’s favoring one of his legs.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:51 pm

Hawks PP is over. Nice passing, no goals.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:51 pm

Hawks PP expires.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:50 pm

Update from Vancouver — 2nd period is over. San Jose still leads 1-0.

Meanwhile in Chicago, 20 seconds in Hawks PP.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:50 pm

:24 seconds on the PP.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:49 pm

Minnesota is going to the sin bin. Mikko Koivu.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:48 pm

Here comes a PP for the Hawks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:48 pm

38-23 SOG, in favor of the good guys.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:47 pm

This second line is doing pretty well.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:46 pm

So my mom quizzed me on all of the BACKUP goalies in the playoffs. I got all of them except one (Islanders). Not too shabby, I must say.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:42 pm

Kane’s signature spin around move does not get a goal as its saved by Harding.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:40 pm

B-E-A-UTIFUL takeaway by Saad. Kid knows how to make something out of nothing.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:37 pm

The second line playing with some fire.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:37 pm

A great way to start period 3!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:36 pm

Sharp with a quick stuff shot! 3-1 Hawks!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:35 pm

Nothing really exciting thus far.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:32 pm

I mean, the first line is still playing well. Just not getting on the scoresheet.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:32 pm

Here we go. Puck goes into the Chicago zone.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:31 pm

We’re almost underway, starting the 3rd period. By the way, if the top two lines could start scoring a bunch, that’d be just wonderful.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:30 pm

By the way, if you’re a watcher of the Hawks on TV, you may not be seeing Susannah Collins tonight. This is why: http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/breaking/chi-comcast-sportsnet-chicago-reporter-susannah-collins-parting-ways-with-network-20130502,0,3134722.story

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:25 pm

Definitely. Agree 100 percent.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:18 pm

That’s really an issue they’ve been trying to crack down on. No need to get that dirty. I’m all for fighting, but when it comes to aiming for the head during a check, that’s a big no-no.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:18 pm

Also, in Vancouver, it’s still 1-0 to San Jose in the 2nd.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:16 pm

Just came across this piece from The Globe and Mail’s Allan Maki regarding headshots and the NHL’s take on them. What do you think? http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/maki-time-for-nhl-to-lift-the-veil-regarding-discipline-on-headshots/article11695274/

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:14 pm

And that’ll do it for the second period. Hawks up 2-1 on the scoredboard. They also lead SOG 30-22.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:13 pm

Second period is in the books! Hawks still have the lead at 2-1. Your expectations for period 3?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:12 pm

Hawks need to keep up the aggressiveness they had from the first 30 minutes of this game.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:11 pm

Setoguchi gets a wicked wrist shot on Corey, which beats his glove. Nice pass from Cullen.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:11 pm

GOAL! Setoguchi scores for the Wild and its 2-1 Hawks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:09 pm

By the way, Bob Mason’s Twitter handle is @325_hawks . Give him a follow for some entertaining Blackhawks banter.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:08 pm

Hawks getting some nice chances on the PP.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:08 pm

1 minute on Hawks PP.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:07 pm

UPDATE: Comcast Sportsnet’s Nina Falcone tells me that Coach Q is to announce whether Emery and Bolland will travel tomorrow. However, Falcone adds, Q said it is very likely.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:06 pm

TOEWS with a NEAR goal!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:06 pm

Hawks on the PP now. Brodziak slashes Zeus. Stung him a little.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 201310:03 pm

An update on Emery and Bolland — they could travel to Minnesota to continue the series.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:02 pm

Hossa tried for a stuff shot. Denied. Hossa is making his presence known now. He’s been pretty quiet all night.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:01 pm

Penalty…killed.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 201310:01 pm

Sorry for the delay, but some excellent saves by Corey Crawford. Really stone-walling the Wild on a couple of great chances.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:58 pm

Big save from Crawford!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:56 pm

Hawks are heading back to the PK. Bollig to the sin bin.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:55 pm

SOGs are even between teams this period at 5 a piece.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:54 pm

I’m surprised Suter isn’t always panting. Guy’s out there, like, half the game. Over 12 minutes of ice time already.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:53 pm

HUGE hit by Sharp. Totally legal too.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:52 pm

Mason’s advice for the Hawks, based on what he has been seeing: “Get pucks to the net. The ice is great tonight. [Hawks need to] cash in on rebounds.”

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:51 pm

A pal of mine, Bob Mason, is a season ticket holder and at the Hawks game tonight. He’s majoring in mass comunication at St. Xavier University, and he’s a HUGE Hawks fan (definitely not a bandwagoner).

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:49 pm

22,012 at the Madhouse on Madison tonight.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:49 pm

Saad enters the MN zone but shot is out of play.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:48 pm

Wild have some fire in them now.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:46 pm

HUGE save by Crow.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:45 pm

Stalberg and Bickell are on the ball here.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:45 pm

Rozsival was such a good add this past summer for the Hawks. Incredibly solid this whole season.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:44 pm

Parise has been all over the back of the Hawks net. Making sure he’s there to set up a play.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:44 pm

Hawks kill the Wild PP successfully. In fact, I can’t think of any way to more successfully kill a PP than with a SHG.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:43 pm

Hawks with a really decent PK so far. That pairing of Kruger and Frolik has been wonders all season. :11 left.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:42 pm

Beautiful play on behalf of Duncan Keith. Frolik going for the hat trick!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:41 pm

GOAL!!! HAWKS 2-0!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:41 pm

Frolik with a shorty!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:41 pm

Hawks heading to the box. Toews gets a high-sticking penalty. Wild to the PP.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:39 pm

Toews and Koivu really aggressive in the faceoff zone. Koivu a little too, though, as he gets thrown out. Then, he gets a nice chance on Crow, but Corey says no.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:38 pm

As the second period gets underway, Tony and I would love to hear your thoughts on tonight’s game!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:37 pm

Second period about to start at the UC — what do you want to see from the Hawks this period?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:35 pm

Just an update: the Sharks are beating the Canucks 1-0. Less than 6 minutes left in the first.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:28 pm

19 total.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:27 pm

Five you know’s in Frolik’s first answer.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:27 pm

While we are in intermission, a quick programming note. Tony and I will be with you for round 1 of the playoffs only.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:26 pm

My mom and I are about to play a game we play when Frolik is interviewed. It’s called “How many times will Frolik say ‘you know’ in an interview.” Seriously, try it. The answer may surprise you.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:24 pm

From @ESPNChiHawks: Hits Wild 18-12, blocked shots Wild 10-2, faceoffs won Hawks 15-8, takeaways Hawks 4-2

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:23 pm

Number of shots on behalf of Toews and Kane combined: 0.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:23 pm

And for those wondering, SOG = shots on goal.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:22 pm

They definitely are focused compared to Game 1. But there are some similarities — specifically the strong goaltending of Harding for Minnesota.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:21 pm

Hawks head into the 1st intermission up 1-0. Better first period than Game 1 by far. Hawks lead SOG 17-7.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:20 pm

The first period is in the books. It’s 1-0 to the Hawks!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:19 pm

1 minute to go.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:19 pm

1:17 left in the first.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:16 pm

PP is over. Not much for the Hawks.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:15 pm

45 seconds in the PP.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:14 pm

Hello also to Angela Cotta who’s following along tonight. Thanks for the kind note about our coverage!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:14 pm

Koivu is the other one in the box I believe.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:13 pm

Blackhawks have a PP. Shaw in the box, but so is Suter and another Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:13 pm

Definitely. Hawks now have a Power Play.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:12 pm

My heart hopes not. But if the Hawks keep up this kind of pressure and avoid giving up too many chances, I’d think not. Too early to tell as of right now, though.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:12 pm

And here’s your second Chevy commercial in the block.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:11 pm

Question for you Tony and all our followers — will we see an OT replay like Tuesday?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:11 pm

SOG – Hawks 15, Wild 6

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:10 pm

4:18 left in the first. Hawks still up 1-0. And now, we’re treated to that “wonderful” Blackhawks Chevy commercial.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:10 pm

Stalberg showing some skill and persistence. Referee escorting Shaw off the ice.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:10 pm

Stalberg quick to the net. Not much of a shot, but some work in the Wild zone takes place after.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:08 pm

Cullen is limping. Zucker is limping. The Wild could use a quick power-nap.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:07 pm

Brodziak went down. Slow to get up.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:06 pm

Quick reminder that after tonight’s game the Hawks will go to St. Paul to continue the series. Game 3 is on Sunday and we’ll have it for you here.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:04 pm

Hawks leading takeaways, Wild leading blocked shots.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:03 pm

Wild with a 2 on 1. Crow stops it.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20139:02 pm

The Wild have another injury besides Backstrom — that of defenseman Clayton Stoner.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:02 pm

9:03 left in the first. Frolik already has a goal, 2 shots, and is a +1.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20139:00 pm

Shots on goal 11-4 Blackhawks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:59 pm

Goal post grazed on that shot. Hawks fighting hard tonight. Nice set up by the first line.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:59 pm

Hossa almost made it 2-0 there…

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:58 pm

Frolik almost had another one from the same spot! Nice feed by Kruger.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:57 pm

Frolik takes a shot off of Andrew Shaw’s rebound, and it’s 1-0 Hawks!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:57 pm

Frolik did an excellent rebound of that shot from Bickell.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:56 pm

GOAL!!! 1-0 HAWKS!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:56 pm

Shaw sets up Bickell from behind the net, a move they’re all too familiar with. Unfortunately, no goal on that shot. Nice chance though.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:54 pm

Make that 7-2.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:53 pm

Shots are 7-1 in favor of the good guys.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:52 pm

Suter covering Toews. That’s an impressive match-up.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:51 pm

A big hit from (surprise surprise) Bollig.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:51 pm

Some nice shots by the Hawks. Playing better than the first period in Game 1.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:49 pm

I must say, Hjalmarsson has immensely improved over the last two or three seasons. Last season, I wanted him traded. Now, I’m not so sure.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:49 pm

Ref confirms it was no goal.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:48 pm

Not even. They immediately know it’s not a goal. Kane didn’t even celebrate.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:47 pm

Hockey Ops in Toronto will review that goal.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:47 pm

Refs saying the goal is kicked in.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:47 pm

Hjalmarsson!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:46 pm

Both teams are facing challenges right now with injuries and suspensions.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:46 pm

Another quick side note — after reading about some key injuries in Montreal and the suspension from Ottawa, the Canadiens beat the Senators 3-1. It’s 1-1 ahead of Game 3 in Ottawa on Sunday.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:46 pm

Like, seriously. When I watch Brandon Saad play, I think to myself, “Mom, where did you go wrong?”

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:45 pm

Nice sight by Crawford. Some nice shifts thus far for the Hawks. Wild responding though.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:44 pm

Very impressed with Stalberg so far and its only 3 minutes in!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:43 pm

In a surprising upset, the Islanders beat the Pens 4-3.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:43 pm

Nice block by Leddy. Nice tempo to this game already for both teams.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:43 pm

I think since Game 1 this team has woken up for what will be an exciting first period.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:42 pm

I feel like even when Saad does nothing, he still wows me.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:41 pm

If the Blackhawks want to have a successful game, the passing needs to be more accurate and they need to pressure the Wild defense.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:41 pm

And here we go! Slide into Chicago zone.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:39 pm

The Chicago Anthem is the best in sports. I will argue that till the day I die. Gotta love the atmosphere at the UC.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:37 pm

Anthem time.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:37 pm

Bickell’s Game 1 OT winner is already on the pregame scoreboard. Nice job, Blackhawks Media!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:36 pm

Bryan Bickell on the 3rd line: “Q emphasizes on our defense, and our offense is already tough.”

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:35 pm

Hello to our outgoing editor-in-chief and friend Lauren Pirc who’s gotten in touch: ” I particularly liked the comic-book thing that they were going for. It was a really cool way to present it. What do you guys think?”

Thanks for following along with us tonight Lauren. Me personally — I agree with you. I loved it. Tony?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:34 pm

As we await the puck drop, a couple of developments:

Eric Gryba of Ottawa has been suspended after a hit against Montreal last night.
The London Drugs pharmacy chain in British Columbia is suing some of those involved in the 2011 Stanley Cup riots in Vancouver. They have a June deadline if they have intentions to sue more.
Sidney Crosby has returned to Pittsburgh’s line up after a jaw injury.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen May 3, 20138:32 pm

Saad-Toews-Hossa are the starting forwards for the Hawks. Keith and Hjalmarsson on D. Crow in net.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:27 pm

Josh Harding will get the start for Minnesota again tonight. To my understanding, Crawford is in goal tonight.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 3, 20138:25 pm

Evening one and all — welcome to coverage of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs! Sorry for the delay. Tony should be here shortly. Hope you’ve all had a good week and are ready for what will be an exciting match!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman May 2, 20139:53 pm

Evening all! Sticking my head in the door to let you know that Tony and I will be back tomorrow night from 8:15 for live coverage of Game 2 of the playoffs.

In the meantime, what are your thoughts ahead of the game? Can the Hawks continue their quest, or will the Wild be able to pose a significant challenge? Let us know.

But never fear, Tony and I aren’t going far. We’ll be back Friday night with live coverage of Game 2. Coverage starts at 7:30 or 8 (to be confirmed) — keep an eye out! Until then, for us both, thank you and good night.

Hawks win 2-1, take Game 1 of the series.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:32 pm

Thanks everyone who joined us! It’s been fun!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:32 pm

Thank you for staying with us for the last four and a half hours. Thanks to Dave Hansen, Michael Gates and Andrea Earnest for keeping this site afloat as we go along.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:31 pm

Same here! Game 1 was exciting and Game 2 will be awesome.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:30 pm

Hawks need to be intense but smart in Game 2 (and the rest of the series, for that matter). MIN is a good team, and they can make you pay. The Hawks need to continue with the offensive pressure and get shots upon shots on the net. Overall, exciting first game! Can’t wait for Friday!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:28 pm

Final thoughts Tony? Hawks or League wide?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:27 pm

The plays must be kept up for Game 2.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:27 pm

Taking this first game is HUGE. Is it essential? Not at all, but the Hawks now control the series. It’s even more essential now, however, that the Hawks win Game 2.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:26 pm

Sorry for the delay. Some technical difficulties. But HOLY COW, what a finish. Beautiful play by (surprise, surprise) the third line, specifically Stalberg and Bickell.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:25 pm

So Tony, what do the Hawks need to do with Game 2?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:25 pm

And a note from STL — the Blues win Game 1 2-1.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:24 pm

Oh wait, I apologize. It was Bickell.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:23 pm

Stalberg’s beautiful shot makes the series 1-0 to the Hawks.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:23 pm

DONE! GOAL! 2-1! HAWKS WIN!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:22 pm

Oh wait, it was there all along.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:21 pm

The puck…its gone!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:20 pm

No matter where the puck goes, expect Crawford or Harding to be on the ball, ready to take action.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:18 pm

An update on Robin Regehr — he did return back to the game after the skating incident.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:17 pm

Harding is saving, no rebounding.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:17 pm

Wrap around attempt by Kruger is a no go.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:16 pm

Fun fact — want to learn about the Zamboni? A driver at the UC was on WBEZ earlier: http://www.wbez.org/series/curious-city/what-qualifications-do-you-need-be-professional-zamboni-driver-106807

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:16 pm

Back-and-forth right now.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:16 pm

Hawks NEED to start bringing the pressure. That has been a common theme tonight. CHI needs to start setting up plays. Fortunately, they seem to be controlling the puck a little more.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:15 pm

Official finds it and brings it over. Rupp’s all good.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:15 pm

What’s up with Mike Rupp? He was crawling. Looks like he lost his skate blade.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:14 pm

Stalberg still hangs on, eager to pass.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:14 pm

Nice idea with that pass, Stalberg. But nobody was there to get it.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:13 pm

Both goals in the ANA-DET game were PPG. Bonino for ANA, Cleary for DET.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:12 pm

Some updates — still tied in STL 1-1, and it is tied 1-1 between the Ducks and the Red Wings.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:11 pm

Hawks PP freezes at :03.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:11 pm

Patience by Kane, takes a shot with a hope for a redirect. Nothing.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:11 pm

Toews and Hossa back and forth. Now to Kane.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:10 pm

Power Play now for Hawks for minute.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:10 pm

Hawks with nearly a minute of PP.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:10 pm

4 on 4 expiring now.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:10 pm

Crawford has been bailing his team out of some chances by the Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:09 pm

Crawford in with the save.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:09 pm

teams now even. The question is who will strike, if any, in 30 seconds?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:08 pm

Hawks need to make this work. This is a good opportunity for them.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:08 pm

Toews draws the penalty on a near-breakaway! 4-on-4 for :52.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:08 pm

Gilbert gets the penalty!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:06 pm

Oduya to the box, I meant.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:06 pm

Penalty on the Hawks. Oduya to the Hawks. If this Power Play turns into a goal, then I blame myself for giving Oduya such praise in the beginning of the game.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:06 pm

Minny’s got a player down. Oduya is off to the box.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:05 pm

Goalpost by Minny!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:05 pm

Too much pressure in the Chicago zone leads to a redirect. Luckily, Crawford soaks it up.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:05 pm

Crawford with a beautiful save right there.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:04 pm

Someone stupid like Rupp is going to score. I just know it,

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:04 pm

Good thing to remember. So I would guess a new round of 20 minutes would start until a goal is scored?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:03 pm

One of my friends was nervous about the shootout. Reminder: NO SHOOTOUTS in playoff hockey.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:02 pm

That Saad-Toews-Hossa line is too good.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:01 pm

Toews shoot, Harding saves. Rebound.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:01 pm

Chicago has 36 faceoffs won compared to Minnesota’s 32.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:00 pm

Timeout Minnesota. Lord knows they needed it.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 201310:00 pm

Yet another icing on behalf of the Wild. Bad news bears.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 201310:00 pm

Icing called for Minnesota.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:59 pm

A note from Anaheim — 1-0 to the Ducks.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:58 pm

Suter will probably win Norris. I have to admit it.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:58 pm

Suter has been great today. Problem? He’s being overworked. He can’t be the only reliable d-man on the Wild.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:57 pm

Too freaking close. That was a great chance for the Hawks.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:57 pm

Harding dives in to keep the puck out!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:57 pm

HOSSA. ALMOST. HAD IT.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:55 pm

Near goal by MIN. And another. Too much pressure being allowed by CHI.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:51 pm

Who’s going to be the overtime hero?

P.S. 8 of the Hawks’ last 9 playoff games have gone to OT.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:50 pm

Off to OT!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:50 pm

By the way, LA tied it with less than a minute to go. They’re off to OT too. Free hockey for everyone!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:50 pm

Definitely will be entertaining. I’m liking OTT vs MTL with the depth of what both teams have. SJ and Vancouver may be interesting too…

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:49 pm

MIN has 16 blocked shots tonight.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:48 pm

WSH and NYR will be a fun one. Ovi versus Nash? That’ll be entertaining.

Pittsburgh taking on the Islanders will be fun for one sole reason: the Pens are dominant. But I really like Tavares. One of my favorite players in the league.

Detroit and Anaheim will be fun too. The Ducks were incredible, and the Red Wings barely made the playoffs. Still, though, I think Detroit has the capabilities to pull of an upset. Will it happen, though? I don’t know.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:43 pm

As we’re in intermission, what series’ are you looking forward to? Tony?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:39 pm

Other updates: In STL, the Blues still lead 1-0, and Anaheim’s match with Detroit is about to get underway.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:38 pm

Both teams have their fans on the edge of their seats in Chicago and St. Paul. Will be a good OT.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:37 pm

Remember people: OT in during the Stanley Cup Playoffs is first goal wins. Full 20:00 minutes. We’ll go as long as we need to. 5-on-5 hockey also.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:37 pm

Both Harding and Crawford have excelled, leaving the ability to score in a state of flux.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:37 pm

OT. Great play in the past 20. Harding has been superb. Same with Corey. Shots are 28-20 Hawks.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:36 pm

Off to overtime! Game tied 1-1.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:36 pm

The energy is through the roof right now. Both teams are playing hard. This is either team’s game to win – or lose.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:35 pm

Hjalmarsson passes — Bickell shoots and is blocked.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:35 pm

“ONE MINUTE REMAINING IN THE PERIOD. ONE MINUTE.”

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:34 pm

That pass was meant to lead to a nice set-up for a goal. Got redirected instead. 1:11 left in the 3rd.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:33 pm

Saad was looking for five-hole. Denied by Harding.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:32 pm

Toews shoved into the goal as Harding saves. Still 1-1.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:30 pm

Some nice pressure by the Hawks. And by nice, I mean wonderful. Oduya is playing really well tonight. Same with the 3rd line (25-65-29).

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:30 pm

Harding saves and the puck goes out of the MN zone.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:29 pm

I’m willing to bet this is going to go into overtime.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:28 pm

Crawford lost his stick for a while. Still doesn’t have it.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:28 pm

Why hasn’t Leddy been resigned again?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:25 pm

That was a close one. Good stick by Hammer. Then a blocked shot in the MIN zone.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:25 pm

Kane is in…shot blocked.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:21 pm

Here’s a look of the ice after the incident. Regehr got cut somewhere in the face.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:20 pm

Side note: Robin Regehr has been cut by David Backes’ skate in the STL/LA game. Lots of blood.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:20 pm

No review. Ruling stands.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:19 pm

Shot. Covered. Missing. Chaos. Whistle. Puck in net. No goal.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:19 pm

A possible goal? Is it being reviewed?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:19 pm

The chants for Let’s Go Hawks grow louder in the UC and Toews’ goal attempt is blocked. 10 min in 2nd.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:17 pm

Hawks need to stay out of the box. That can be a decision maker in the playoffs.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:16 pm

CSN is Comcast Sportsnet while NBCSN is the NBC Sports Network.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:16 pm

I talked earlier about broadcasting rights and negotiations. CSN is holding this for round 1 in Chicago. Likely may go to NBCSN for round 2.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:14 pm

Hjalmarsson has a penalty. Power Play now for MN.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:09 pm

I’m willing to say there would be more fights on the ice (and the stands) if Minnesota was still the NorthStars and not the Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:08 pm

Sharp picks up speed and shoots but Harding saves.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:06 pm

Say what you will about Frolik, but you have to admit, the guy always gives 110% on the ice.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:05 pm

Let’s see if they keep the playing up!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:05 pm

Mitchell and Crawford in a bit of a dispute after the save.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:05 pm

Nice past 3 minutes for the Hawks. Playing like they had been this past season.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:03 pm

HUGE save by Harding on a somewhat breakaway by Kane.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:03 pm

Beautiful defensive work by Oduya.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20139:02 pm

With STL and LA, I assumed it’d be a tight, low scoring game. That could be the whole series. Who wins? Who knows.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:00 pm

More shots in the net, more action in the net, Kompon says.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20139:00 pm

And now the last period of the night. Jamie Kompon is speaking — MN is playoff pace and we need to catch up, he says.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:57 pm

Definitely. Now, let’s look at St. Louis and LA. 1-0 to the Blues. You surprised Tony?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:56 pm

Kane’s stick handling is remarkable, though. Almost nobody in the NHL does it better.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:55 pm

Only if it presents itself. Hawks have been much better at passing this year than in previous seasons. Like I said, playing “cute” doesn’t translate to goals.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:53 pm

Let’s hope that is the case. Should the Hossa-Kane move that saw the game tied up be repeated in the 3rd?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:50 pm

Playoff jitters are common. The firs few games will probably be a little sloppy, but teams will make adjustments if need be. The veterans (Hossa, Kane, Toews, Keith, Seabrook) should act as guides to the newer guys (Shaw, Saad, Kruger, etc.).

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:47 pm

Indeed. I think your point on staying in the mode of regular season thought wise is also relevant. I wonder if there’s hesitation because it is the playoffs?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:47 pm

Coach Q is probably not making much hullabaloo. I’m sure the message is the same: stay consistent, get the puck in, get traffic in front of the net, generate shots. Defense needs to tighten up, and the forwards needs to make smarter plays. Don’t be cute.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:45 pm

So…two periods. Done. It was a better period than the first, but what needs to happen in the 3rd? Tony, if you were Coach Q what would you be saying?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:43 pm

Hello to our colleague Angela who’s gotten in touch. She’s following along with us tonight!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:43 pm

And with a save by Crawford, the 2nd period is done. 1-1.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:41 pm

Keith in the box. Feminists rejoice.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:40 pm

Attendance at the UC: 21,428.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:40 pm

Keith is out.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:36 pm

The glove by Harding! My oh my!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:34 pm

The Wild defense has been absolutely on par tonight.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:34 pm

With about 4 minutes to go in the 2nd, its 1-1. And in St. Louis right now, its 1-0 to the Blues.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:28 pm

Random fact: NASCAR driver Danica Patrick is at the Hawks game and will participate in the Shoot-the-Puck during the second intermission. Why? I haven’t the slightest idea.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:27 pm

They look okay. A little better, but there’s still more they can do.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:25 pm

Have the Hawks woken up? Outside of the Kane to Hossa move, I’m not sure. Tony?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:24 pm

Hossa to Toews to Hossa…off side.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:21 pm

Hossa passes to Saad…then save.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:20 pm

And Seabrook and Mitchell duke it out…sort of.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:15 pm

Hawks need to spend much more time in Minnesota’s zone.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:15 pm

The Zeus misses a goal opportunity with a save by Harding.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:12 pm

And the goal is avoided with a save by Crawford!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:12 pm

Puck is recovered after out of play.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:10 pm

Rozsival to the box

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:10 pm

Now a penalty — power play to Minnesota.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:09 pm

Kane to Hossa. That’s the kind of plays the Hawks need to make.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:09 pm

Kane and Hossa were the support of the goal and getting it past Harding…

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:08 pm

GOAL! 1-1!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:08 pm

Kane will head back and…

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:06 pm

Kane tries again…and a save by Harding!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:05 pm

Near close goal attempt by Kane.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:05 pm

And a penalty on running into Crawford! Power Play is on the way.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:04 pm

And here we go into the 2nd period, a period where the consensus stands in the UC and out that the Hawks need to step it up.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20138:04 pm

Definitely superb goaltending. Ottawa will be a force with Anderson. Yet, with Price and Subban at the Habs, I’m keen to see how Ottawa will reply. The Sens in my view are the underdogs and will be worth watching.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20138:03 pm

Ottawa has had superb goaltending. Anderson has been great. Montreal has been something fierce too. I’m favoring OTT in that series though.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:59 pm

However, they are going to have a challenge in Montreal, so that too will be a fun series!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:58 pm

If we can look to a future match up quickly, Ottawa vs Montreal Thursday. I was very surprised that Ottawa was able to get in despite all the injuries. Extraordinary.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:57 pm

LA does have an advantage. Generally speaking it’s been extraordinary that despite the shortened season the progress that all of these teams have made.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20137:56 pm

LA and STL will be a fun one. Both teams are, in their own rights, underdogs. It’s a toss-up, really. If I absolutely had to choose though?

My prediction: LA in 7

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:54 pm

Stalberg is talking now and hopes that they will keep improving.

Let’s look at the match going on opposite now — the Blues and Kings are playing. Who do you think’s got it?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:51 pm

The question is if they will. Coach Q is probably emphasizing that now.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20137:50 pm

I think it’s an obvious group of choices for CHI: Kane, Toews, Hossa, Saad, Keith, etc. The big guns need to lead the way. And with Bolland, whose nickname is “The Rat” for a reason, out, Shaw needs to be a pest, causing turnovers and mistakes on Minnesota’s part.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:48 pm

That being said, what is the key player to look for as we go into the 2nd?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:47 pm

Agreed. Saad, Stalberg, Kane and Hossa were on the ball, but the team should wake up.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20137:46 pm

We’re done with one. 6 shots for each team. With what I’ve seen, Hawks need to step it up.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:46 pm

1-0 to the Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:46 pm

Indeed. And on that note, 1st period is over.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20137:46 pm

With Zeus (Handzus’ nickname), it’s probably a smart choice. If he struggles for the first two games, try Kruger.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20137:45 pm

The Wild have two options: be motivated or be depleted. It’s up to them which they choose.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20137:45 pm

Excellent patience by Minny. Excellent save by Crawford.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:44 pm

Two saves from Crawford!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:44 pm

And what of Handzus taking over from Bolland?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:43 pm

But now for the Wild, the question is, how will they be affected with Backstrom’s loss?

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20137:42 pm

The Hawks need to play like this is a regular season game too. No need to panic. No need to be too cute.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:42 pm

Indeed. Crawford and Harding balance out, I’d argue.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20137:41 pm

Upon finding out Backstrom was injured during warm-ups, a lot of people made it seem like the Hawks had a sure sweep in this series. While Backstrom is essential to this Wild lineup, Harding has had flashes of brilliance.

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20137:40 pm

I was checking my Twitter rigerously during class. Saw the updates about Backstrom and the Clutterbuck goal.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:40 pm

So Tony, what’s your take on events so far?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:39 pm

Ladies and gents, the Lyen King is in the building!

Anthony Lyen Anthony Lyen April 30, 20137:37 pm

Hello everyone! Sorry I’m late. You know how it is, class and such.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:35 pm

Saad shoots and is saved by Harding.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:33 pm

6.30 to go in the 1st.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:31 pm

Here comes Hossa…Toews chipped in.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:28 pm

Stalberg shoots, which is saved by Harding.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:28 pm

Kane starts back to Wild Ice.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:27 pm

Reminder also that Anthony Lyen will be joining us shortly…stay tuned!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:26 pm

Kane in the middle to Hossa and shot — blocked. Clearing attempt and out of play.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:25 pm

Kane passes to Hossa. Out of play.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:24 pm

Crawford saves attempt at goal.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:24 pm

Hawks now in Power Play.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:22 pm

Harding saves goal attempt from Hjalmarsson.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:21 pm

Fight nearly broke out, now Seabrook moves to center ice. Bollig moves.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:20 pm

Shaw sends to Wild ice, now Stalberg comes in. Keith shoots and misses.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:19 pm

Was the Wild’s first shot-on-goal.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:19 pm

GOAL! Cal Clutterbuck swings it in and its 1-0 to the Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:18 pm

Sharp gets puck passes to Kane. Kane now has it and passes back to Seabrook. Shot missed.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:18 pm

Kane is hanging on, shoots and misses.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:17 pm

Then to Seabrook.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:17 pm

Puck returns to Chicago ice with a backhand pass that cannot reach Brandon Saad. Kane now in control.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:14 pm

Backhanded save from Crawford!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:14 pm

Stalberg is given the puck before it is called out of play.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:11 pm

Josh Harding is taking over from Bäckström. And away we go!

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:08 pm

Right. Here we go. Anthem time. Game is about to start. What are your thoughts ahead of the match up?

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:06 pm

Bäckström is a goaltender for the Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:05 pm

I also understand that Niklas Bäckström is out of tonight’s match. We are trying to get back in touch with the Wild.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20137:03 pm

For the record, this is a statement he gave and he is quoted in getting it. Hawks have not returned call seeking comment.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20136:59 pm

An update on Emery and Bolland — both are out of tonight’s match. Coach Quenneville confirmed it earlier this afternoon. Corey Crawford is in goal. Michael Handzus is filling in for Bolland.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20136:57 pm

Tomorrow night’s match ups include the Toronto Maple Leafs traveling to Boston to take on the Bruins, the San Jose Sharks taking on Vancouver and the New York Islanders taking on Pittsburgh.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20136:53 pm

The Ducks are awaiting the return of Luca Sbisa, who is recovering from a lower body injury. Awaiting a reply to a voice mail message left in Anaheim.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20136:40 pm

Also tonight, the Detroit Red Wings are in Anaheim to take on the Ducks.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20136:37 pm

Outside of the Hawks/Wild match, there are two additional matches tonight. The L.A. Kings are in St. Louis to take on the Blues in the hopes to hoist the Cup for the second year straight.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20136:36 pm

I just got off the phone with a spokeswoman at the Wild, who tells me that it is day to day. Pominville however did skate at yesterday’s practice. It is unclear if he will return to the team.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20136:35 pm

However, there is an injury that they are contending with, that of forward Jason Pominville.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20136:31 pm

The Minnesota Wild come in after a win at Colorado over the weekend and the elimination of the Columbus Blue Jackets, leaving the Wild to get the last seed of the Western conference.

Alex Veeneman Alex Veeneman April 30, 20136:30 pm

I’ve left a message with the Hawks seeking comment on a possible timeline for return.
