Candidate: Josh Hamel
Year: Freshman
Major: Double major in business administration and finance
Resident or commuter: Resident
Current and past leadership experience at Lewis: President of Residence Hall Association, member of Food Committee, member of Sports Management Association at Lewis
Other interests: Chicago sports
If you are elected, what would you bring to your position?
“I have prior experience of being president of another organization, Residence Hall Association, so that has taught me a lot about what the position requires, and all the duties that are entailed with this position. I also feel that I’m a strong leader in my community. When anyone needs help, I’m there to help them, to support them. I’m very active in my community.”
What do you see at Lewis that needs improvement, and how would you go about changing that?
“Some things that I think need improvement is maybe opening up some more areas for people to play sports, because I know the Rec Center sometimes is pretty booked up with events and teams playing. So, I’d like to create maybe an area — I know St. Charles Borromeo (campus building) has a basketball court that we could possibly open up, and have students go there if the field house is filled.”
What specific ways do you plan to address student concerns?
“I plan to follow up on all concerns, no matter how big or small they are, because if someone’s bringing up a concern, it means that it’s very important to them, and all those concerns should be addressed — hopefully very quickly, rapidly — so that they can get an answer and the problem can be solved.”
