With the semester coming to a close, all Lewis students can think about is summer. The summer season is a great time to relax and attend the wide variety of concerts and music festivals the Chicago area offers. Popular music festivals are listed below:

Kiss 103.5 Fantabuloso is May 18 at the Allstate Arena featuring Enrique Iglesias, Gym Class Heroes, B.O.B., The Wanted, Karmin, Cobra Starship, Havana Brown, Neon Hitch and Dev.

Spring Awakening Music Festival takes place at Soldier Field June 16-17 with artists Skrillex, Benny Bennasi, Afrojack, Moby and many more.

Summerfest is June 27- July 1 and July 3-8 in Milwaukee and is known as the world’s largest music festival. They have an endless list of famous artists like Kellie Pickler, Chevelle, Motion City Soundtrack, Young the Giant, Cake, Lupe Fiasco, Robyn, Awolnation, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and tons more.

Vans Warped Tour is July 7 at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park. Bands old and new will be playing like Taking Back Sunday, Streetlight Manifesto, Senses Fail, Mayday Parade, Yellowcard, The Used, We the Kings, All Time Low, Anti Flag, Breathe Carolina and many more.

Pitchfork Music Festival is July 13-15 and it takes place in Union Park in Chicago. Feist, Sleigh Bells, Vampire Weekend and numerous other artists are performing.

B96 Pepsi Summer Bash is July 16 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, featuring Flo Rida, The Wanted, Big Time Rush, Dev and Sean Paul.
Rockstar Energy Mayhem Fest is July 21 at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park. Bands performing include Anthrax, As I Lay
Dying, Asking Alexandria, Motorhead, Slayer, Slipknot, The Devil Wears Prada and a few others.

Country Thunder is July 19-22 at Twin Lakes in Wisconsin, featuring Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Toby Keith and many other country artists.

Lollapalooza is Aug 3-5 at Grant Park in Chicago. The festival is going on its 21st year and continues to wow festival goers with their diverse line ups every year. Headliners this year include Black Sabbath, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, Jack White and Florence and the Machine. In addition to these headliners, there are also hundreds of other smaller artists worth seeing like Fun, Metric, The Gaslight Anthem, Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand. Another wonderful experience about Lollapalooza is that with so many new obscure artists, it’s a great place to discover music.

“I am going to Summer Fest to see either Chevelle or Awolnation, said senior communications studies major Robert Moss. “I am also attending Warped Tour for the first time to see Taking Back Sunday, Yellowcard, New Found Glory and the Used.”

Festivals may not be everyone’s style; however, a short concert can hit just the spot for the music you’ve been craving. Red Hot Chili Peppers and LMFAO have concerts in May that would be a treat to attend. Awesome shows to see in June include Radiohead, Foster the People, Colbie Caillat with Gavin DeGraw and Drake. July brings acts like O.A.R. and Death Cab for Cutie to Chicago, but is primarily dominated by festivals. August is full of promising shows like Coldplay, Lincoln Park with Incubus, Train and Pretty Lights.

“I am hoping to go to a Rascal Flatts concert this summer,” said junior public relations major Molly Feeman.

Whether you like country, rap, pop, rock, indie, metal or dubstep, there is definitely something for everyone this summer; picking a festival or concert that appeals to you should be a breeze. For more information on concerts, visit livenation.com or the website of the festival of your choice.
