Many may have noticed, tucked behind Dorothy Day Hall, the new athletic complex. For some time now, it has been bringing various activities such as flag football and soccer games to the field.

The new turf and scoreboard have made it easy for students to enjoy an afternoon from the stands. Yet, the word “stands” almost seems as if it should be “stand,” because fans will have to stand once the stadium is filled.

The layout of the new complex is rather impressive, but will the stadium seating fit everyone? As of Nov 21 it won’t, and so this week we take a stand on the stands.

As editors and copy editors, our job is to inform the students, faculty and staff of Lewis University. Therefore, it is important to get the facts straight before making assumptions.

The assumption is that the athletic complex is complete, which is incorrect. There are more stands coming to the athletic complex. As a result, there is no need to worry about fitting all the fans.

There is no date when the stands will be completed. However, there will be stands that hold over 500 seats for fans.

According to an article on the Morris Daily Herald website, the new complex can have seating for up to 2,500 people. This is comparable to the Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field at St. Xavier University, a school that is slightly smaller than Lewis. Their stadium holds about 3,000 people.

So for right now, the stands may be pretty packed for some of the sporting events held in the athletic complex, but it is still a work in progress and should eventually be able to fit the demands of the university.
