The holidays are upon us, which gives ample time for families and friends to convene and go see a movie of their choosing. This holiday season is filled with a variety of movies that moviegoers may be interested in seeing.
“The Green Hornet”
Seth Rogen goes from funny man to action man in his new movie, “The Green Hornet.” An American radio program created “The Green Hornet” in the 1930s.The movie, however, portrays Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) as a young man taking advantage of his father’s wealth instead of becoming a newspaper publisher. All of this changes when his father unexpectedly dies, and Reid is put in charge of his father’s vast empire of media technologies. Reid and one of his father’s most trusted employees, Kato (Jay Chou), create a high-tech car called “The Black Beauty.” From there on, they begin to fight crime and quickly make a name for themselves. However, in the process, they make a few enemies as well. Reid’s new secretary, Lenore Case, who is played by Cameron Diaz, also helps them. The movie, which is sure to have elements of action and comedy is set to hit theaters Jan. 14.
“The Tourist”
What do you get when you put two big names in a Holleywood movie? Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp have teamed up to star in the upcoming film, “The Tourist.” The plot of the movie is that Frank, played by Johnny Depp, is taking a trip to Europe when he meets a woman who has deliberately crossed paths with him. The woman, Elise, played by Angelina Jolie, has a bit of a back-story in her life that won’t be completely revealed until the movie hits theaters. Their romance quickly evolves and eventually thrusts them into a thrilling chase across Venice and Rome. With two huge stars, the movie should be quite popular with audiences and is expected to make a decent amount of money at the box office. “The Tourist” is set to hit theaters Dec. 10.
“Country Strong”
Fresh off her appearance on the hit television show “Glee” and her live performance at the Country Music Awards, Gwyneth Paltrow now takes her musical act to the big screen. Paltrow has been getting a lot of criticism and praise for her singing talents, and this movie, above all, should showcase how far she has come with her vocal abilities. “Country Strong” is about a rising young star who gets involved with a fallen country star as they go on a “career resurrection” tour. The movie is filled with turmoil as the duo has to deal with an assortment of badly timed events. Some of these include romantic entanglements and old demons of the past that attempt to halt the tour before its official ending. Joining Paltrow is Tim McGraw, who is most known for his role in the 2009 hit, “The Blind Side.” Leighton Meester and Garrett Hedlund also star in this movie, which is bound to have an assortment of country songs along the way. Some of the songs from the movie have already been released for the public to help promote the film. “Country Strong” is set to hit select theaters Dec. 22 along with a wider release Jan. 7.
“Tron: Legacy”
It’s been over 30 years since the original “Tron” movie hit theaters, and Disney is revamping the franchise with one of the movie’s stars from the past. The original “Tron” hit theaters in 1982, which starred Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn, the character stuck in the virtual world of his own making. “Tron: Legacy” takes a twist on the original as Kevin’s adult son, Sam, (Garrett Hedlund) searches for his dad that has been missing throughout most of his life. He finds his dad and others in the virtual “Tron” world, and they now must work together to defeat the leaders of the “Tron” universe and escape once and for all. This world is not the same as the original “Tron” world, as there are new technologies, new visually stunning backgrounds, and more dangerous weapons for the father-son duo to deal with. The movie also stars Olivia Wilde as Quorra, who is most known for her role on the hit TV show “House.” Quorra is another warrior in the game zone that will help Kevin and Sam try to take over the system. “Tron: Legacy” will be in movie theaters Dec. 17.
