Many of you have probably heard of the band,
Lifehouse. The band, whch has been around since 2000, has hits such as, “Hanging by a Moment” and “You and Me.”
I am a Lifehouse fan, and got extremely excited the first time I heard their music on the Christian station. I pulled together the lyrics and understood how there was a deeper importance in them, and references about God.
Bands such as Lifehouse, who play both mainstream music and non-direct Christian music, are considered to be crossover bands. These are bands that have two target audiences and whose music can be part of a broad spectrum. The majority of their songs are played on stations such as 101.9 The Mix. However, their music is also frequently played on 94.3 KLOVE, a Christian radio station.
Nobody really wants to sit down and analyze a song while listening to it on the radio, rather we want to enjoy it! But for some songs by Lifehouse, there are deeper meanings that can touch the soul and bring to the listener a sense of encouragement.
One song in particular, “Quasimodo,” contains the lyrics “there goes my pain, there go my chains, did you see them falling.” The song continues on, “because this feeling [of pain], that has no meaning…there goes the world off of my shoulders, there goes the world off of my back.” I believe lyrics such as these are meant to assist listeners in making their day better.
Jason Wade and Sergio Andrade formed Lifehouse after meeting at a non-denominational church. In an interview with UCLA’s Daily Bruin Online, Wade said, “We are not a ‘Christian band,’ but I am a
Christian, and the bass player is a Christian.”
I highly recommend listening to this band for their wonderful and spiritual lyrics that can comfort even the saddest person. It will give you a jolt of understanding and help you realize there is never a reason to feel pain, because God will lift it up off your shoulders.
