Interested in saving the environment? Do you have ideas on how this can be done? Want to make them a reality? Here’s your chance!
The University Environment and Energy Conservation Council (UEECC) is holding a “Come clean, go green” sustainability competition where students submit proposals that translate into real and relevant products which will positively impact the environment.
“The project needs can focus on such objectives as durability, recycling, reduction of water consumption, reduction of waste and energy efficiency,” said Dr. Jennifer Consilio, a member of UEECC and judge to the competition.
Proposals will need to address the relevance of the project, including its sustainability and the need for it at Lewis. Additionally, the proposals should include the cost of the project.
Any undergraduate and graduate students at Lewis University can participate in the contest, either individually or in a team of any number. All majors are also welcome.
First place winners will receive $1,000; second place will be given $500 and third prize will win $250. All prize monies will go toward the creation and execution of the successful projects, which will then be publicized.
Proposals are due on Friday, March 12 by 5 p.m. The cover page should include the title of the project, names of team members or individual, department, acknowledgment of any faculty advising and contact information. Projects should not contain more than 10 pages, and are to be sent to Dr. Simone Muench electronically at muenchsi@lewisu.edu.
“Be creative and have fun in coming up with potential sustainable projects,” Consilio advises.
UEECC is an assembly of members striving to make progress toward a more environmentally friendly university. The council includes faculty, staff and students whose purposes are to raise awareness of the importance of energy conservation, to educate the university community on the benefits of conversation and to encourage ways they can contribute to this purpose.
The winners to this contest will be announced during a ceremony held in the University Dining Room late April, a date that still needs to be determined.
Students who have questions or ideas for the contest can contact Dr. Jerry Kavouras at kavourje@lewisu.edu; Consilio at consilje@lewisu.edu or Muench.
